Finding Grace for Yourself with Ron Chapman | EP 24
Giving yourself permission to do things is super important, but knowing how to give yourself grace even in tough times can be even harder to do.
Ron Chapman is no stranger to self reflection and finding grace for himself. In this discussion we talk about:
Why it is so hard to find grace for oneself,
Why it is important to take the time to reflect,
How we can strive to understand ourselves better to feel more fulfilled in life,
How community can be so healing.
Ron shares how we all need to learn to understand that we are all more likely than not doing the best we can for ourselves moment to moment. There is always room for improvement and betterment, however understanding where we are and choosing to improve ourselves is the most important factor.
We talk about how childhood shapes so much of our lives, beyond what we often realize. The interesting part is seeing how this happens to everyone so we have generational issues that keep coming to the surface due to a lack of adults taking the time to heal from their past so that they do not then repeat the harm to the next generation.
“Hurt people, hurt people.” says Ron. He shares how this happens from child to child and even from environmental influences. Ron continues, “In order for us to find a different way, we’re going to have to deal with some pretty deep wounding. And it hurts, it’s unpleasant, it’s ugly.”
The contrast is necessary to really find the joy and peace in life. Therefore you must go down to be able to come back up more whole.
Ron challenges us to make sure we are authentic with one another while making sure to be more mindful about giving others kudos and compliments more regularly.
“If it hurts or is uncomfortable for you, start there.” Ron shares about where to start to work on your own healing. He advises to journal, talk with others, even talk to your dog!
We wrap up this conversation talking about how it is good to share with the world you imperfections and what we do with our mistakes to learn how to make this right.
